Mark Wallis aka Mozaz

Sheffield Greens are sad to announce the death of Mozaz. He died early this morning in the Northern General Hospital. Mozaz was not a member of the Green Party, his anarchist views prevented him associating too closely with a political party. But he was a great campaigner and often supported us on demos. He will be very sadly missed.

There is an obituary here on Incurable Hippie’s musings, and a great photo collection here.

A simple funeral for Mark “Mozaz” Wallis will take place at Grenoside
Crematorium at 12 noon, Thursday 3 Feb.
There will be a wake afterwards from 1.30 at the Philadelphian Working Mens
Club, 4 Martin St., S6 3DW.  Everyone can share their stories of life with
Mozaz.
All Mozaz’s friends are welcome to either event.

Residents against Station Closure were extremely sad to hear this news. Mozaz was one of of our stalwarts and attended all our demos. He took some great photographs for us. We hope he wasn’t stopped by a ticket collector in his journey to the next life!

As one of Mozaz’s close friends and one who with with him during his last few days, I have set up a website to try and co-ordinate things and as a bit of a memorial. Myself and his other close friends are arranging his funeral and details will be posted on the website.

Many thanks.

We finally have a date and time for Mozaz’s funeral.

Mozaz’s funeral will take place on Thursday 3rd February 2011

The ‘service’ will be at Grenoside Crematorium in the North Chapel starting at 12pm and finishing at 1:15pm

Skew Hill Lane, Grenoside, Sheffield, South Yorkshire S35 8RZ

Tel: 0114 245 3999

The ‘service’ will then be followed by a gathering of friends from 1:30pm onwards at :

Philadelphian Working Mens Club
4 Martin St
Sheffield S6 3DW

0114 272 1708

Friends are welcome at either or both venues.

The cortege will leave from outside George Barsnleys at a time yet to be arranged. ( I will post as soon as I know) It will then pass The Fat Cat and pause for a short while. We will then carry on to collect his mother and proceed to the crematoruim.

We will require coffin bearers but the number is limited, usually to 6. If you wish to do this will you pm me so we can make arrangements. Also, if anyone wishes to stand up and say something it would be helpful for me to know for numbers etc. There will be a slideshow of pictures of Mozaz halfway through the ‘service’ so if you have any you’d like including, please let me know.

Any other questions, please just ask.

Dear PRAENaT

I am sorry, I am not going to publish this comment as I don’t think it a good idea to speak so ill of someone who has died so recently.

I am quite well aware that Mozaz’s behaviour was at times intolerable. I do not excuse this. I had many disagreements with him myself. However Mozaz did suffer from bi-polar, which doesn’t excuse his bad behaviour, but may explain some of it.

I am aware Mozaz often got in trouble with the police, but haven’t seen his police record- this is obviously confidential.

I don’t know why you are so aggrieved about Mozaz. My advice to you would be to try to forgive him, as now he is dead if you continue to feel hate for him that could become very destructive . I know this may be easier said than done, but I think it is true.

Thank you for your comments.
