The Green Party recognises the importance of all Sheffield’s market traders in providing employment and affordable goods. We have supported both the Castle Market traders and the out-door Moor market traders as they have struggled to keep their footing during the economic downturn and the changes to the city centre.
Cllr Jillian Creasy said, “It is ironic that the council has found millions of pounds to keep the New Retail Quarter plans afloat and to invest in new pavements on the Moor, but has shifted the outdoor traders from the Moor and can’t find the money to subsidise rents for the Castle Market traders. It seems that supporting big business is more important than supporting small traders and existing local customers.”
