Sheffield Green Party will be supporting teachers protesting outside the Department for Education building on St Pauls Place near the Peace Gardens on Thursday 26th June at 4.30pm. NUT and NASUWT teachers will be undertaking the first of a wave of regional strikes over pay, pensions and conditions for teachers and in defence of education.
Education Spokesperson Graham Wroe, who is a lecturer at Sheffield College, comments “We are pleased to be supporting teachers who are being victimised and bullied by the Education Secretary, Michael Gove. The rise of academies, the gradual privatisation of our schools, the threat to teacher assistants and national pay structures, the loss of value of pensions and the ever increasing workload are all totally unacceptable.”
Peter Garbutt, who will be speaking at the rally for the Greens, comments “The Green Party values education and recognises the excellent work our teachers do. The Government must stop attacking teachers and start to recognise that we need to invest in our future by supporting the teaching profession. Michael Gove has acted in a high-handed, disrespectful and anti-democratic way towards education professionals.”
