Dear Editor
Sheffield trams are great. I have used them throughout the last 20 years and they are clean, reliable and good for air quality. It’s normal across Europe to allow bikes on trams. But not in Sheffield and Stagecoach won’t allow them on the new tram trains to Rotherham.
Stagecoach picked up the network for just 0.5% of the construction cost in 1997. They and First Group have far too much power over tram, bus and train services and fares – which the council should control. And they are not playing their part in building an integrated transport network that effectively links travel by walking, cycling, bus, rail and road to help reduce car journeys, congestion and air pollution.
Yours Sincerely
Eamonn Ward
