In the local elections of last year Calvin and Sue came a respectable second to Labour, beating the Lib Dems – an unexpected, unprecedented and encouraging result, especially as there were many minor parties represented. Local membership has grown and from this a small group of activists are working hard to increase our share of the vote in the May elections. This would put us in reach of gaining a Green seat on the Council for Walkley in 2016 when due to the boundary changes all Councillors have to stand for re-election.
We have delivered the Central Constituency newspaper to every house in Walkley. In January we organised a ‘Meet your Candidate’ coffee morning at Gerry’s Bakery on South Road with Jillian and on the last Saturday in February the Green Party made its mark with a stall on South Road and a local mass canvass.
Local Walkley members support candidates in our two target wards and Jillian in Central Parliamentary Constituency by canvassing and delivering newspapers. Locally we will keep the Green Party profile high with more activities in the run-up to the election in May.
If you live in and around Walkley and would like to get involved we would love to hear from you. firstname.lastname@example.org.
