Members of Sheffield Tree Action Groups and concerned residents are appalled by the extraordinarily aggressive tactics sanctioned by the council, waking people in the early hours to carry out their environmental vandalism. This show of contempt for community opinion deserves to be rebuffed at the highest level of government. The campaign to protect street trees will not end here, in fact, it is likely to be greatly invigorated. Felling trees to reduce maintenance costs and maximise profit flies in the face of the council-stated Green Commission objectives.
