This Thursday at 5.30pm in the Peace Gardens there will be an event to celebrate the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia.
Cllr Jillian Creasy, Green Paty city councillor sent the following message of support and encourages Greens to come along.
“Sheffield Green Party sends its greetings to everyone gathered in the Peace
Gardens to mark the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia. It
is hard to believe that it was only 22 years ago that the World Health
Organisation removed homosexuality from its list of mental disorders. We
have made so much progress in terms of attitudes towards LGBT people since
1990. But there is still a long way to go, in UK and internationally. We
must allow gay and straight people to choose whether they want to enter into
civil partnership, or marriage or neither. We must keep up the pressure on
those countries where being gay is criminalised. Sorry I can’t be with you
in person, but I’m with you in spirit and I’m sure I’ll hear the one
minute’s noise as I’m cycling to another meeting.”
