“No student fee rises” say Greens

Cllr Jillian Creasy

Sheffield Green Party has spoken out against Lord Browne’s recommendation today that university students should have to pay up to £12,000 per year in tuition fees. The Greens argue that increased fees will place an unfair burden on young people, particularly those from low income households.

Green Party councillor Jillian Creasy said, “Higher education is a right that should be available to all. Before the General Election, I and many other parliamentary candidates signed an NUS pledge to oppose tuition fee rises.

“Local Lib Dems Nick Clegg and Paul Scriven signed it too. I hope they will honour that pledge now, and campaign against a fees increase. And, of course, it was the last Labour Government that gave the green light to previous increases in fees.”
