Can I vote?

2010 is an en election year – Registering to vote in Sheffield

The next Sheffield City Council elections are on May 6th 2010 which is also now the most likely date for the General Election. You must have registered to vote by April 20th to be able to vote in elections held on May 6th.

You must be 18 or over on polling day to vote. Students may register in their home town and place of study. They can vote in council elections in both locations but only once in a General Election.

Citizenship and nationality: You can register to vote if you are:

* A British citizen
* A citizen of the Republic of Ireland
* A Commonwealth (or British Overseas Territories) citizen who has
obtained any official leave to enter or remain in the UK that is needed.
This includes Zimbabwe, even thought it is suspended from the
Commonwealth.
* A European Union (EU) citizen – except you cannot vote in a
General Election
